About Us
Leeds Development Education Centre is a small educational NGO, set up by Oxfam in 1978 to promote a greater understanding of global development issues to young people and adults.
It employs around 8 people and has a strong tradition of volunteer workers. Though based in Leeds the DEC seeks to support teachers and youth workers across West Yorkshire to bring the global dimension to their work.
The Centre has gained a reputation for publishing innovative learning resources in partnership with local educators, national development agencies and social justice organisations in the South.
We provide INSET on Citizenship and the Global Dimension, Race Equality, PSHCE and Sustainable Development.
Leeds DEC works with local educators to devise and publish new learning materials for teachers and youth workers. The Centre also publishes Guidance Documents for teachers that identify the good practice that schools could use to bring a Global Dimension to their educational provision
