Health
The precise health issues that each of the partner countries face do coincide but in general what is of the greatest concern varies from country to country.

Of particular concern in Germany at the moment is the increased privatisation of hospitals and the expansion of private sickness insurance, whereas in South Africa the most pressing health issue is HIV and AIDS.

Two of Nicaragua's greatest health concerns relate to transnational pharmaceutical companies. These companies are selling their brands in local pharmacies at too high a price for most to afford, and threaten 'biopiracy' whereby traditional herbal remedies in the area are under threat from patenting by large pharmaceutical companies.

By the year 2015 all 191 United Nations member states have pledged to:
  • Reduce by two thirds the mortality rate among children under five
  • Reduce by three quarters the maternal mortality ratio
  • Halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV / AIDS
  • Halt and begin to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases
