Health
The precise health issues that each of the partner countries face do coincide but in general what is of the greatest concern varies from country to country.
Of particular concern in Germany at the moment is the increased privatisation of hospitals and the expansion of private sickness insurance, whereas in South Africa the most pressing health issue is HIV and AIDS.
Two of Nicaragua's greatest health concerns relate to transnational pharmaceutical companies. These companies are selling their brands in local pharmacies at too high a price for most to afford, and threaten 'biopiracy' whereby traditional herbal remedies in the area are under threat from patenting by large pharmaceutical companies.
By the year 2015 all 191 United Nations member states have pledged to:
Public health expenditure in partner countries in 1998
Number of physicians per 100,000 of the population in partner countries 1990-1999
Measles and tuberculosis immunisation in the partner countries in 1999
